Why Transport?

A newcomer to the world of animal transport might wonder why there is such a need for so many transporters, and how important this work really is.

There are literally thousands of animal rescue groups and shelters in the United States alone. Rescue groups generally do not have a facility, but are actually a network of caring individuals that coordinate foster care and adoption for animals they receive. They are the result of collaboration between people from all walks of life and income levels - and they place tens of thousands of animals in foster care and adoptive forever homes every year.

Why are Rescues Needed?

The reality is that many traditional shelters are already filled to the brim with animals - many simply cannot accommodate the surplus of animals that is created by careless pet owners that do not spay or neuter their pets and puppy mills that mass-produce animals in deplorable conditions for profit. Until the pet overpopulation epidemic is resolved, the need for independent shelters and rescues will always exist.

Why is Transport a Good Option for Busy Volunteers?

People who care about animals come from all different backgrounds, with widely varying amounts of time and money they can invest to help. Animal transport is an option that helps so many animals, and does not always require extraordinary amounts of time or money. Just a few hours out of your day can help an animal find his or her way to a loving forever home, whether that be with an adoptive family in the case of companion animals, or an animal sanctuary in the case of some farmed animals, wildlife, and captive exotics.

Some volunteers are able to drive for hours, spanning hundreds of miles and several states. Others may only be able to drive an hour or so. In animal transport, every single leg of that journey is critical, no matter what the physical distance traveled may be.

Many of the animals that require transport come from absusive environments, and you truly are their lifeline. In emergency situations, such as in the case of natural disasters such as the wildfires in Alpine, CA or the hurricanes in the southeast, transporters are the only hope these animals have of surviving. Animal transporters are an essential part of providing deserving animals with a better life - and at the end of every transport mission, you can say to yourself "I saved an animal's life today."
